The Iron Springs Chateau is gearing up for its new spring melodrama
"The Shanghai Express"

Manitou Springs
28 February 2014

Boo the villain and cheer the hero at the Iron Springs Chateau Dinner Theater, 444 Ruxton Ave. in Manitou Springs. The Iron Springs Chateau opens its 54th Season of Melodrama with “The Shanghai Express” by Vicki Kelly and Lyn Ruybalid.
A “seafaring” melodrama, this hilarious show tells of the life and love of Davey Jones, a struggling fisherman about to lose his boat to the evil Black Jack Flogg. In the meantime, Davey’s love, Mercy Goodsoul, is in peril and the devious Shanghai Lil is causing trouble. The production is directed by Robert Kelly with musical direction by Bruce Littrell and Mark Arnest. Piano accompaniment is performed by Mark Arnest. The cast includes Daisya Dowen, Madeline Spanton, An-thony Guerra, and Noah Hensley.

Following the melodrama is a fun-filled sing-a-long intermission, performed by the incredible Bruce Littrel, that gives the audience an opportunity to warm-up their vocal cords on some old standards, celebrate birthdays and anniversaries, or just take a break

Then the cast returns to perform the all new “Razzle Dazzle Olio” with a nostalgic visit to varying periods in music, dance, and comedy. As always, audience participation adds to the mix of this entertaining show that has something for all ages. Musical direction is by Bruce Littrell and Mark Arnest with choreography by Vicki Kelly and Daisya Dowen. Costumes and wigs are by Noah Hensley and Leah Montgomery. Backstage tech is by Steve Braun, while spot is performed by Robert Ratterree.

Accompanying the production is the Chateau’s three course meal with garden salad, choice of oven roasted chicken or old-fashioned pot roast, real mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, seasoned rice and cobbler for dessert. Dinner arrival is between 6 and 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Dinner and show is $16.50 to $29.50 per person; show only is $9.50 to $15.50. Special rates are available for groups over 10.
